A forty-minute drive from the airport ends at a coconut-palm driveway and a welcome drink of calamansi and rum. Villas are the headline act: private plunge pools, outdoor rain showers and hand-carved hardwood furniture that feels genuinely local rather than catalogue-tropical.
Minor grumbles: Wi-Fi wobbles in the furthest villas, and the thatch roofs amplify tropical downpours to dramatic effect — atmospheric for some, noisy for light sleepers.
The Gaming Floor
One room, forty tables and slots combined, and a dress code best described as "shoes encouraged". Do not mistake the relaxed vibe for a soft game — the nightly poker tournament draws serious regional players, and the ₱5,000 buy-in tables run deep.
Dealers are friendly and patient with beginners, offering to explain rules between hands. What the floor lacks in variety it makes up for in the most welcoming atmosphere of any casino we have reviewed.
Dining
The beachfront grill is the star: whole reef fish chosen from the morning's catch, grilled over coconut husks and served metres from the water. Lechon nights on Fridays draw locals, which is always the best review a hotel restaurant can get.
Prices are disarmingly fair — our most expensive dinner for two with cocktails came to ₱4,800. The wine list is short but sensibly chosen; beer drinkers are in paradise.
Service & Facilities
Filipino hospitality is a cliché because it is true: staff learned names by day two and preferences by day three. The dive centre runs twice-daily reef trips, and the spa's hilot massage is worth the trip to Cebu alone.
The main pool is modest in size but rarely crowded — most guests are in the sea, which is exactly as it should be.
Final Verdict
Costa Azul succeeds by not trying to be Monte Carlo or Marina Bay. It is a beach resort with a genuinely good casino attached, priced honestly and staffed by people who seem happy you came. Hardcore gaming tourists will want more tables; everyone else will want more days.
Best for: divers, couples, players who value atmosphere over variety. Avoid if: you need 24-hour high-stakes action.
